Club History

The Shillingstone & District Riding Club (S&DRC for short) is affiliated to the British Horse Society and forms part of Area 17. In the spring of 1975 a small group of people met in the Portman Hall, Shillingstone with the idea of starting a Riding Club which held different types of events, both fun and competitive, some original members are still active in the Club and even on the Committee!
The Club welcomes riders and horses of all abilities and interests. Some of our members compete at affiliated competitions, whilst others are just starting out – all are able to gain skills, knowledge and experience at our range of club-based activities and events. Instruction is held in flatwork, jumping and cross country and in the summer we have regular show jumping practice sessions where the jumps can be put at whatever height is right for you and your horse or pony. Over the years many members have represented the Club at the Area 17 competitions in all disciplines and some have made it to the National Championships! The non competitive rider and the non riding member is also not forgotten with pleasure rides, mini trek sessions, mock hunts, BBQs, club nights, pick ‘n mix weekends and any excuse for a party!
Our events are normally held in the Shillingstone, Blandford, Sturminster Newton area, but we do venture further afield to access different facilities and instruction.
